Dreams Rebuilt Campaign

Local men dream of a better life… but dozens are still waiting to start.

The Challenge

The face of homelessness is changing here in Kansas.
More people are struggling to find affordable housing.
More people are living below or “on the edge” of the poverty line.
More people with mental illness are living on the streets.

Right now, dozens of men are eager to join our Solid Ground program to transform their lives, but are on a waiting list until space becomes available. Homeless men need a safe place to stay and emergency services, but we just don’t have the room.

For more than 70 years, the Union Rescue Mission has ministered to the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of hurting people in our community.

But the need is growing – we must expand our ministry.

“I’m really grateful for the broken road that brought me here. Now I’m on a better path… I have direction and goals. I want to spend my next 10 years helping to feed people and giving back to the Mission for what they’ve done for me.”

With your help today, we can expand in these two critical areas:

Our New Dreams Rebuilt Center

60 NEW BEDS… DOUBLE THE CAPACITY

We plan to renovate our recently-acquired downtown building and relocate our Emergency Shelter to the new space. This will provide 125 beds and eliminate the need for men to sleep on floor mats.

NEW COMMON SPACES

The renovated facility includes a kitchen and dining area, laundry, chapel, common lounge and an exterior gathering courtyard. Having this new Shelter will enable us to better identify and meet the initial needs of local men to guide them on the path to sustainable living.

20 NEW BEDS FOR PROGRAM RESIDENTS

By renovating our current facility to serve as a Life Change Center, we can increase our Solid Ground program capacity to serve an additional 20 men. The Center will provide transitional services to prepare men to enter our independent living program at Eagles Wing.

NEW GATHERING SPACES

This renovation also provides gathering space for up to 100 guests so they can network together, establish friendships and encourage each other emotionally and spiritually – all of which are critical for the restoration process.

“When my wife died, I started drinking too much and lost my job. I was unable to work and had no place to live, so I ended up at the Mission. I started to read the Bible every day and became closer to God, applying Biblical principles to my everyday life. Now I see the light at the end of the tunnel… I’m not hopeless anymore.”
